At quarter to five, the place was empty and the band was running late. So I went upstairs, did some work for a change (for about 5 minutes), someone walked in and said the band was here, and I went back downstairs and Rasputin's in Berkeley was suddenly packed. Within another five minutes, The Violent Femmes were ready to go.

And go they did! The Femmes rocked the house and hard, even on acoustic instruments, pumping out four songs to a screaming fan club and then signing autographs until every last fan that wanted something got it signed.
