Heavy
as Heck Tragedy in the metal community. Voivod guitarist Denis “Piggy” D’Amour died of colon cancer on Aug. 28. The disease had spread to his liver and was inoperable. He was 45 years old. In another horrific event, longtime Vader drummer Kryzsztof “Docent” Raczkowski, also know as “Doc” has died at age 35. No word on a cause of death, although it is well known that Doc struggled with drug addiction for years. Old school Norwegian black metal band Carpathian Forest will release their next album in early January 2006 through Season of Mist. Belgian waffle kings Aborted are preparing for an impending U.S. tour. The tour will include such heavyweights as Cryptopsy, Suffocation, and Despised Icon. Tour dates not yet available. Allen West has quit Obituary on the eve of their U.S. tour with Napalm Death. West has decided to focus all his energy on his other band, Lowbrow. Khold, the mysterious black metal band from Norway, will release their fourth album Krek on October 18 for Candlelight records. Also on Candlelight, 1349, featuring Frost from Satyricon, have confirmed Oct. 4 as the release date for their new album, Hellfire. Old Man’s Child have finished their new album, entitled Vermin. The record will be released on Oct. 18 through Century Media Records. And finally, the lost D.D. Ramone black metal album,
Dopus Eternus, has been uncovered by an unidentified
source. For those of you who don’t remember, this was not Ramone’s
first foray into other musical realms. His 1989 rap album Standing
in the Spotlight (under the name D.D. King!) amazingly failed
to generate any commercial success, selling a whopping 346 copies worldwide.
