Amy Rigby
Little Fugitive
(Signature Sounds)

Amy Rigby is an antidote to all the angst-ridden, heavy-handed women singers who take themselves way too seriously. The irreverent songwriter puts quirky, yet smart, lyrics on top of delicious pop melodies to create some of the catchiest tunes around. Along the way, Rigby manages to drop some keen observations about modern life. Her spunk along with some cool rock song references are found on “Dancing With Joey Ramone,” one of the dozen songs found on her CD, “Little Fugitive.”

Rigby’s 1996 solo debut, “Diary of a Mod Housewife,” was heralded for its songs about single motherhood and other modern-life situations. On her latest release, she gives us a song about being friends with the husband’s ex-wife. “We’re like a club of two who’ve seen him with his clothes off,” Rigby sings on “The Trouble With Jeanie.”

She also serves up a straight-talkin’ love song with “That’s The Time.” The song is unconventional in its honest presentation. The CD also features “Needy Men,” a humorous look at today’s sensitive males. Although her voice has a world-weariness about it, and her delivery comes with a street-smart attitude, Rigby’s light touch is never far away. - D. Kimura
