You Can’t Imagine How Much Fun We’re Having
Rhymesayers

First off, production-wise this album is nice. Actually, I’ve always liked Ant’s beats, but Slug hasn’t ever been one of my favorite MC’s (although I’ve always recognized his lyrical abilities.) Not that it really matters, since this group has been riding an up slope of popularity since their God Loves Ugly LP came out a few years back. The thing is, on this new one Slug’s rhymes don’t seem to have that same kind of eagerness that he’s known for. The intensity is still there but the lack of hunger is evident if compared to his earlier recordings. This is a good listen for someone who’s isn’t familiar with their catalogue, but most old fans might find it a bit bland. If this was an instrumental album I’d say every track is a highlight, but when you got a chorus like “say hey there/you don’t play fair/ you can’t stay here/ I hope you take care” over these beats, it makes it hard to take the album seriously. Oh well, at least they’re having fun… - Meat
