Who is this world-weary cowpoke beckoning to us, hat in hand, guitar slung at the ready? Some say he rode the rails back East and decided one day to visit the ocean. He wound up in Oakland busking at BART stations and singing his songs of heartbreak and restless farewells during rush hours and Saturday nights. Sometimes Bob’s voice harkens back to early Neil Young or Bob Dylan circa Self Portrait and although simple and direct, his lyrics paint images and evoke feelings that are hard to ignore. Anton Patzner’s violin has a nice cozy feel and reminded me of several of my favorite songs by The Band. I also prefered the absence of reverb on songs like “April Fools” and “Reno Town Blues,” where Bob’s voice comes through more intimately and dare I say it….cozy. Dude is getting some radio play and gigs around town a lot these days. For all the latest, check out www.bobharp.com. - David Bassin
