Buddy

Dark and surreal are two words that only begin to describe
the tone of Buddy Boy, with references to David Lynch and Roman Polanski
tossed in for good measure. When a reclusive and disturbed young man
begins spying on his attractive new neighbor from across the street,
the stage is set for a relationship that following a brief glimmer of
hope, quickly spirals downward into obsession and madness. Some may
question some of the plot devices used to move the script along, but
it’s probably better just to accept the film at face value and
enjoy the ride. Aidan Gillen is delightfully creepy as the stuttering
protagonist forced to care for his invalid, drunken stepmother and after
watching his performance, you’ll want to make sure to keep your
curtains closed once the sun has gone down. --David
