Never Let Go The Naked Truth What’s New Pussycat? The Blockhouse MGM recently released four classic Peter Sellers titles that make their way to DVD for the first time: two of them funny and the others not so much. Never Let Go is about a gang of car thieves and the salesman who loses his job after his vehicle is stolen and is unable to keep his appointments. Sellers plays a London garage owner and the mastermind of the ring who finds himself on a collision course with the cosmetics salesman and a detective who’s determined to send him away. In The Blockhouse, a group of laborers are forced into a concrete bunker during the Allied invasion of Normandy. However, despite enough food and water to sustain them, they’re trapped for six years! Wouldn’t you start to go a little batty if no one knew where you were? On a lighter note, Sellers and Terry-Thomas team up in The Naked Truth to plot the murder of a sleazy tabloid journalist who has been blackmailing prominent British citizens. Plenty of slapstick = plenty yuks as crazy ideas are bungled and Sellers attempts several bad disguises. There’s even more shtick in What’s New Pussycat? when Sellers suits up as a twisted psychoanalyst enlisted to help Peter O’Toole overcome his addiction to women. Woody Allen wrote the script and co-stars in his first screen role, accompanied by Romy Schneider, Paula Prentiss, and Ursula Andress. It’s all good, clean silly fun in a swingin’ sixties kinda way, so don’t be surprised if you use the word “groovy” a lot after viewing. - David Bassin
