The
Sound Of Music
(20th Century Fox)
You might not believe it, but I just watched the Sound Of Music for
the first time – heck, I hardly believe it myself, but it’s
true! I know it’s always on TV, but this beautiful remaster has
no commercials or edits; just pure movie magic. Julie Andrews is a living,
breathing, ray of sunshine, Christopher Plummer is perfectly stodgy
before succumbing to Andrews’ charms and the kids look great in
lederhosen. Andrews still looks pretty hot for her age and introduces
the film, as well as the extra features that include several documentaries
(including one on the real Von Trapp family), a conversation with Plummer,
storyboards, singalong karaoke subtitles and Mia Farrow’s screen
test. Talk about family values – they don’t get any better
than this.--David Bassin
