Gito Gito Hustler
Gito Gito Galore
(Gearhead Records)

I love Gito Gito Hustler. I want to lick each and every one of them. There are four of them (Fusa, Yago, Mitsuko, and Tae), but they are small. Should they need a good licking, it would be my pleasure.
Gito Gito Galore, out on San Francisco’s own Gearhead Records, is a tribute to the rockers in Kyoto, the town from which they hail (just to be clear – that’s Kyoto, Japan). I can’t understand a god damn word they say, but it affects my enjoyment of their 6 track record not one bit.

If you’re into Japanese pop, you’ll like this. That is, if you liked The 5,6,7,8s in Kill Bill Vol. 1, then you’ll appreciate Gito Gito Hustler. I think GGH is even better than those Tarantino hipsters - ‘Melon Sherbet’ borders on punk pop. The praising of which makes me a total hypocrite, because I can’t tolerate so-called pop punk bands that are American-born (or European-born or Canadian-born), so why is it okay for Japanese chicks? Because they’re hot, that’s why.

They did gain a little street cred by performing at the famed CBGBs and Austin’s SXSW fest. But if you’re a fan of The 5,6,7,8s (or Supersnazz or 54 Nude Honeys), then you’ll be a fan of these ladies, too. - Valeria Vegas
