This CD is like a gift from above. Jimmie Dale singing classic country with an incredibly solid country backing band helmed by Joe Ely. For those of you, like me, who want more Flatlanders with Jimmie Dale singing, or solo Jimmie Dale without the overly mystical overtones, you will want to kiss the ground. He works his way through “Pick Me Up on Your Way Down”, “Saginaw Michigan”, “Walking the Floor Over You”, “Peace in the Valley”, “I’ll Never Get Out of This World Alive,” and more. In a way, this is the Jimmie Dale Gilmore version of Merle Haggard’s Roots Vol. 1 disc (whatever happened to Vol.2?). The production, also by Joe Ely, is both contemporary and respectful of country history. This is a modern classic. - Will Seeley
