Maybe I’m an old fart, but the popularity of Napoleon Dynamite escapes me. Watching this collection of mouth-breathing slackers limp their way through their crappy lives, each with a giant “I” (for irony) branded on their foreheads left me dumbfounded. Granted, there are a few sweet moments (the talent show scene), I enjoyed Efren Ramirez’s Pedro character and I can even understand the point of first-time writer-director Jared Hess spoofing the small Idaho town where he grew up, but when the movie ended, all I could say was, “what the f—k!” -- David Bassin
