The Soviettes
LP III
Fat Wreck Chords

If I was king of the forest, the Soviettes would replace the National Army Band and ‘Roller Girls’ would be the national anthem. No, ‘What Did I Do?!’ would be the national anthem. No, ‘How Do You Like That’. Hmm. Fuck it - the whole album. Why not. I mean, since I’m king and everything anyway. LP III is like LP II and LP in one way – it’s packed with tight, loud, unpretentious tracks that blow every other contemporary pop-ish punk band away. And a few of the old school ones as well. Poly Styrene, eat your heart out.

All four members of The Soviettes are strong musicians, which is a rarity in punk. Plus, they all sing, which is another little something out of the ordinary. With 14 songs in under 29 minutes, intensity is requisite and it works. Strong drums, guitar chops, and confident shouting create a pop-punk-cum-power-punk album that’s easy on the ears and hard on the neighbors. These broads (and mister) are fan-fucking-tastic and LP III is just as good, if not better, than their first two releases. Honestly, one of the best punk albums I’ve heard this year.
