I try not to take subgenres of rock very seriously, but I am a huge
fan of darkwave/goth/industrial music and as long as The Cure, Joy
Division, and Siouxsie and the Banshees are mentioned and other crucial
bands are covered, I am a very happy kid. However, I had a huge concern
over the Alkaline Trio's cover of the Sisters of Mercy song "Lucretia
My Reflection." I was very scared they would change the song
too much and make it too "pop punky." To my relief, they
actually did a very good job (it did not change too much and kept
it real to the original version). I am a bit annoyed with the way
the album was mixed, which is very much like in a club, where they
fade the songs in together to make a somewhat seamless segue. When
they mixed the end of a Skinny Puppy song to Siouxie's "Cities
in Dust", it just seemed a bit tacky. At times it isn't as annoying,
but it was enough in that instance to keep me mad for the rest of
the album. They included many bonuses which add to the value of this
comp, one of them being Bauhaus' "She's in Parties", and
also Killing Joke. My favorite songs are The Cure's "One Hundred
Years", the Siouxie track, and Joy Division's "She's Lost
Control". - Ms.Clara Flores |
