It seems like Willie hasn’t met a musician he didn’t like
and it’s no surprise that everyone and their cousin wants a chance
to play with him before he heads off to that big tour bus in the sky.
This superstar-laden event is basically a series of duets with everyone
from Bob Dylan, Keith Richards and Merle Haggard, to Los Lonely Boys,
Kid Rock, Lucinda Williams and others. The performances are uneven –
Dylan’s in particular and some (Kid Rock with Jerry Lee Lewis)
are downright weird. Al Green gets sanctified, Los Lonely Boys rock,
Shelby Lynne exudes sex from every pore and Toots Hibbert – what’s
he doing here? All in all a fun show, but no Black & White Night.
