I have been absolutely positively crazy about this band for sometime now; it all began when my friend e-mailed me a link to their site and I instantly fell in love with the radio track “An Honest Mistake.” Then, I saw the brilliant (yes, very clever, almost genius) video, plays out a domino rally triggering a set of mechanical effects that are set up to create an exact outcome; a Rube Goldberg Machine device that undoubtedly fails to meet it is perfectly orchestrated end by a foot. A great dance jam tinges with tones of infidelity and the lies the come from hiding the truth. It also has some great harmonies which are executed through the energetic ideas that give the Bravery a different sound while staying within the current trend of indie-rock music. Now, their lead singer has a voice worthy of calling irresistibly whiney, while he sound supremely sexy, even with that faux-Glenn Danzig death lock hair-thing he has going; (come on people, seriously he had the Carlos D. hair-do and then changed his mind after listening to the Misfits, maybe some Samhain). In any case, they are melodically beautiful and the pace of their songs tells of their stories like “Unconditional” about selfishness in love; it is about wanting it and the idealized modern context it occupies: you want to be loved, but you do not want to make any sacrifices; how honest; but never a mistake. No pun intended, really.
