If you took the right drugs and imagined yourself trapped in a world of talking oversized hats and a bumbling, evil magician, you’d be in….Lidsville – the koo-koo-kookiest! Yet another aberration from the fertile minds of Sid and Marty Krofft (H.R. Pufnstuf; The Bugaloos; Far Out Space Nuts), Lidsville follows the exploits of Mark (Butch Patrick), a teenage boy who sneaks backstage at a magic show and discovers a hat that grows to enormous proportions and that sucks him into a wacky new world. Charles Nelson Reilly plays the evil Horatio W. Hoo Doo and try as he might, he’s never really all that scary or effective in harming Mark or his new friends, who receive assistance from Weenie The Genie (Billie Hayes). The hats are trippy and were undoubtedly manned by mostly midgets or children, with voices dubbed in later. It’s all good, silly fun and can easily be enjoyed by young kids and drunken teenagers alike. Someone needs to make a biopic on the Kroffts and turn us all on to what these folks were smoking!
