Luis Miguel
Complices
Warner Music Latina
It doesn’t take Miguel long to hit his stride, belting it out so the ladies will know he cares. From the first song, Complices is a powerhouse showcase for Miguel’s star power and emotive voice. Mostly written and produced by Manuel Alejandro, there’s a full orchestra, lush synthesizers, the occasional rock guitar, all in service of a series of swoon-inducing ballads (with a couple of more upbeat numbers). All the romance you need from Miguel!

Great World Of Sound
Magnolia
This little indie flick came and went through the art houses quickly, but not without garnering much praise from the critics, one of whom is about to give it his own thumbs up: Martin (Pat Healy) and Clarence (Kene Holiday) are two job seekers hired by “Great World Of Sound” – a music production company, to go out and “discover” new talent in small to medium-sized cities. Even though their business cards say Producer, these guys are just glorified salesmen, determined to sign anybody willing to write a check for 30% of the recording, pressing and promotional costs. In true mockumentary style, we’re treated to some seriously bad (and some not-so-bad) auditions conducted in the duo’s hotel rooms, then watch as they’re hooked by the possibilities of fame and fortune. Eventually, Martin begins to see the company for the sham it really is and his conscience begins weighing heavily on the lives they may have ruined. Healy and Holiday are great together and their relationship on the road gives the film a center to return to, following the more outrageous musical numbers. Rebecca Mader (Lost) does a nice turn as Martin’s free-spirited girlfriend with a knack for making (and selling) an endless array of cute, crafty creations that vary from week to week. First-time director Craig Zobel has made one heck of a charming feature and here’s hopes for continued future inspirations.
